Some background…
Our home backs on to a forest, my wife and son are SERIOUS animal lovers, and I am a sucker!
A couple months ago we noticed a young mother and her three kittens were wandering around in the woods behind our house. Of course wild cats cannot survive on their own, and eating mice is something that only happens in movies (at least that is what my wife and son seem to think). Soon I noticed large bags of feed appearing… who needs mice!
About a month ago the mother disappeared leaving the kittens to fend for themselves.
Soon after my son purchased a very large “tote”, cut a small hole in one end, and threw some old blankets in for warmth. The tote was placed out by the woodpile.
A couple weeks ago the tote moved up to our back porch, and a new feather duvet was added to the inside for extra warmth (we never liked the thing anyway). It took a couple days but the kittens are now living on our porch and looking in while I eat my breakfast, lunch, and supper. I didn’t think it was possible for kittens to stare at you with “puppy dog eyes” but believe me they do.
What’s a guy to do?
