Where, When, How I Write

Day #3 – 10 Days to a Better Blog

Click on link above to get some insight into today’s activity, if you can’t; here is one line that sums up today’s challenge:  “Today’s assignment is quite easy: What I want you to do is to just write out and share some of your initial thoughts about your “optimal” writing environment.”

When I look back on some of the posts I’ve done, there have been some decent ones but many more flops. If I really take a close look at why they were ‘flops’ I’d have to say that I just didn’t put the necessary effort into the post. Distractions were probably the root cause. I’ll be the first to admit it doesn’t take much to distract me. However, I’ve recently changed my workflow.

I’m an early riser, whether I’m working or staying at home. I’m at my prime during those early hours; very little to distract me, brain is running at almost 100% and is full of new ideas. Over the holidays I was able to write several posts and not only were the words flowing (keeping in mind that my idea of ‘words flowing’ might look like an ugly waterfall) but I really enjoyed myself. I was surprised as that time of day is usually devoted to reading (see my 2014 reading list here).

So, the way I see it, my optimal writing environment is during the early morning hours, a cup of coffee by my side (I hate tea… sorry), a comfortable chair and some music; lately Nirvana, Pink Floyd or Hozier.
