What Works?

YoungerNextYear

Reflecting on the exercise side of wellness, it’s important to look back to see what actually worked…

I’ve played soccer for many years and while it was definitely a workout, it was more of a social thing. My wife and I would play then go out with our friends for a bite and a brew at our local pub. The math was simple, soccer + dinner + drinks = fun but in the end, the positive effects of soccer were more than cancelled out by the après-soccer activities.

My cousin got me into spinning several years ago and I’ve never looked back. I religiously attend spin class twice a week, an hour per session. This one activity can be linked to real weight loss. I started spinning weighing in at 190 pounds and found myself hovering around 180 with absolutely no change to my diet.

But something was missing…

About a year ago, a colleague was telling me about a book that literally changed his life. Younger Next Year is a more than just a set of ideas, it’s a lifestyle. I haven’t actually finished the book, stopped at the chapter; Don’t You Lose a Goddamn Pound! I took the bait though, doing a lot more exercise than ever before. Further reducing my weight by a few pounds. Once again, with no change to my diet.

Live Strong, Fit and Sexy – Until You’re 80 and Beyond

To stave off 70% of the normal decay associated with aging (weakness, sore joints, apathy), and to eliminate over 50% of all illness and potential injuries. This is the real thing, a program that will work for anyone who decides to apply himself to “Harry’s Rules.”

I never finished the book but have it on my ToDo list for 2016. I need to digest the exercise piece before moving on.

It’s truly a life changer.
